I'm planning a Sportive/Reliability ride, depending on insurance, helpers etc.

(160km) 100 mile epic tour of all the finest Northants hills, all the killers to tune you up ready for the hillclimb. Plan is full route marking and Food at checkpoints so has to be late season so I can plan it all.
Hopefully make it an annual event with the same route so we can have record times, or records to aim for.

Blog EntryThis week - I be mostly going sideways.Mar 17, '08 10:02 AM
for everyone

As the photo says go to Sarah's site for loads of shots of the handicap race 4.

SARAH BROOKE PHOTOS

Instead of going sideways cause of the wind, this week it was mud. For 2 laps me Phil and Lloyd and about 4 others worked like dogs. Caveman had 8 Min's lead, Graham and Slapper and Brownie were up there too, the chase was on.

Ending lap 2 of 3 they were in our sights, we were motoring and working well race on, then the rain came and downhill at 38mph onto a mud laden road was a big shock to 20mm slick tyres. I'm used to going sideways but this was downright madness. With thoughts of potential damage sprinting in a group the fire went out of our bellies. We re-grouped and the red mist took over again but it was too late.

We just caught the group but the front of it were charging for the line. Good string of photos showing us over the line, Rocko well up there this week, Slapper got the win (although the photo shows him after the line......what line) with Brownie well placed. Me, well couldn't care less at the end, made sure i passed Graham, well you have too, but the legendary JP grunting sprint was kept in the box for another week.

One thing learnt from this week, titanium is so easy to clean ;-)

Any rocko members out there

Theres a new kit order planned for April so get your name down if you want anything.

see here

The race jerseys are subsidised by the club, think I paid only £19 for mine last time, so well worth it for those.

Sizing is not the same as Endura-tal (Plumz kit) so get to try on someone elses before ordering if you can.

Tom - there's still a jersey in the clubhouse for you, if you don't get it soon, they will probably sell it to someone else.

While on the Rocko subject, the website has had a spring clean, go and have a look http://www.rockinghamforest.org.uk/

Blog EntryWeekend on the DropsMar 3, '08 8:57 AM
for everyone

Literally, mad windy struggle on Saturday, then a big long endurance ride Sunday to make room for the legendary sized mothers day dinner. Don't think I've ever used the drops on road bars so much EVER.

The Northants World Championships kicked off at the weekend with a big Rocko riders turn out. Loads of Pictures on Niges page, and some from SarahBrooke that usually end up on BritishCycling from this link:

http://www.sarahbrookephotography.co.uk/portfolio27787.html

As you can see by the Pictures, not the usual groups, it was more like a 3 lap timetrial for most, blink and you lost a wheel, trying to close up a 2 bike length gap was near impossible at times.

My race, well I was honoured to be held in the esteme of Greg and Phil, starting in the Rocko elite group 1 minute ahead of Scratch. Why???...who knows as  haven't road raced in over 2 years now, and didnt do anything then. Sure enough as I predicted to you guys on Tuesday, after 1/3 a lap I was on my own, way to fast for me as I struggled up bringhurst hill and then got finally spat out down the other side. 30 mile solo ride in the wind.....The "Sod it" voices in my head started very early.

Ploughing on I caught a very sick looking Brownie at Ashley who was no use as a partner, he pulled out after 1 lap. Next was Graham, also struggling but game enough to go for a finish. A brief period of help from Sam Barker damn near killed me again (that boy is so strong) but no way I could match him hiding behind those massive legs.

Caught wilkes group at Medbourne on lap 2. near killed me, then I shipped the chain off and had to do it all again into that wind. They were in a group of 4 and I caught them, so decided on lap 3 that I'd carry on. Then Caught Slapper and Vic and a few others at the top of Bringhurst, with them all way to Ashley then split off for flat out blast into the finish with one other rider.

In a way too long sprint, managed to nab it on the line for probably 56th place or summit, pleased with my ability to plough on when in previous years I'd have gave up, not pleased that I have no speed and am definately not a road racer.

Thanks to Nige for the photo.

Come on down the club tonight and bang in a prologue time for our little fun 4 round winter tour.
The first ride will take you about 6 mins I reckon, the rules are you get one go at it and thats final. Theres Green jersey points up for grabs too.

So if your not doing the valley ride, bring down some kit, normal trainers and a towel (you will get warm) and stick in a time.
You then have the rest of the winter period to complete the tour, it should be fun.
Round 1 - prologue, pan flat 2 miles
Round 2 - Climb
Round 3 - virtual video demo sprint and climb 1 mile
Round 4 - Criterium race 1.5 miles

I missed the Saturday ride, nothing was getting me out of than warm bed too early, sorry guys. So to follow my training plan I had to get some warm indoor miles in, and two frantic rides in the Virtual cycling I-Magic on-line tour ensued, Stereo blaring and suffering from overheating this is the way to get your miles in over the winter for sure.

as a result it was worth it, there little tour ended sunday night and heres the results.

ok its a bit small, but 3rd place and a polka dot jersey winner...wahoo I'm King of the mountains......well sort of. And I get an actual jersey to use on my Imagic too.

Quite a good likeness, even my hair has grown back

If you havent cottoned on yet, the Rocko now have an Imagic and we are running our own little winter compettion, get down the club on over the next two Wednesday nights and set yourself a prologue time. It will only take about 6 mins of effort but it will be fun.
