Blog EntryHappy Fat New YearJan 2, '08 8:34 AM
for everyone

Didn't get much riding in over the hols, the combination of work & a warm bed proved too much of a canyon to climb out of most days, but the cats Crackers was a great excuse to blast round the lanes.

Ripped round and managed to get all the Checkpoints, first time ever for me, bit stupid though. With 3 to get I decided what the hell, I'd do it whatever the time cost, with a mass of gates on my final bit of route and what with doing a stupid lap of Foxton trying to find the village hall I was 13 mins late. Now after 10 mins you get 5 points a min deducted...Doh, never realized that, If I'd have skipped the last checkpoint the win was in the bag. Oh well lesson learned. At least I get a mention in the Report Here "tremendous effort" Oh yes indeed. Now to Crack Dave Palmers one on Sunday.

Getting home on sunday with Shattered legs after doing a very rewarding 51 miles in those 3 hrs....Ok 3Hrs 13 mins. Hang on.......blimy that's 17mph avg with all the 24 checkpoint stops, not to mention the tough head wind and the biggest hills in the area, what was I on, Christmas dinners and booze could be the new energy food ;-)

I guessed I deserved a reward so i cracked open the chocolate.......well at least i tried. after breaking a plate and bending a knife it was out with the big hammer. I finally cracked it and enjoyed scoffing over half a kilo of choc (still half left) I can fix the broken kitchen worktop another day...oops.

That's one thick bit of chocolate.mmmmm    HAPPY NEW YEAR

End:     May 26, '08
Location:     Isle of Wight
Right guys how about a plumz weekend away on some great trails, its based on a good campsite, beer and bands available Friday and sat night, silly games and loads for all the family to do if you bring er indoors thats not cycling related.
Its a really good weekend and you'll be impressed how good the trails are, they do special deals on the ferry which is a really slick operation and no hassle, 4 in a vehicle is the best way to go.
It really is a great way to spend May bank holiday or longer, a superb mini holiday with biking
### have I sold it enough yet ;-) ####

The Wight Diamond Festival
23-26th May 2008

Summer kicks off with the Wight Diamond Festival! First run in 1996, the Wight Diamond has established itself as 'don't miss' event for hundreds of bikers. It's unique combination of superb riding, events to suit everyone, on site camping, catering, bar and entertainment have earned it a reputation as the best mountain bikers party on the calendar!

Full details of 2008's event are being worked on right now, but here's a taster of what you can expect;

A true MTB Festival with a choice of great events!

The weekends events centre on the two day Wight Diamond Challenge navigator race, which takes place over Saturday and Sunday. This is the ultimate Navigator event using the whole Island as it’s course. But if two days of all out competition sounds a little too serious for you, enter the Wight Diamond Lite instead - the checkpoints are pubs and cafés and prizes will be awarded for ‘entering into the spirit of the event’!

If navigating isn't your thing and you'd rather just ride, we're putting together a choice of marked out 40k or 60k Wight Trail Enduros to test your legs on Saturday and Sunday without worrying about the map.

Fancy a local 4 hour trailquest ???
see here http://www.midlandtrailquests.co.uk/

An event has now been taken over by the CATS Mountain Bike Club.

As a result the event, the penultimate round of the summer series, will now take place in Northamptonshire,
This area features expansive, rolling countryside with plenty of off-road trails including a disused railway line. we can expect a highly challenging course.
